Meet Ann and the amazing people at St. Jude’s.

Hi Ann! Please brag to me – tell me all about your organization and event!

St. Jude Up ’til Dawn is a student-led, student-run philanthropic program in which college students nationwide raise funds for and awareness of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The program engages participants in a year of fund-raising that culminates with an all night event to celebrate their success at which students stay up for good. Staying “Up ’til Dawn” is a challenge and a way for students to set aside a night in honor of the patients and families of St. Jude.

Our “Up ’til Dawn” experience required students to register and form teams of six to participate in the all-night challenge. At registration, students commit to an alcohol free night. Participants must raise individually $100 or $600 as a team to compete in the all-night challenge. Once teams reach the fundraising minimum, their team captain recieves a text message. The message will congratulate and provide instructions for teams such as the event date, location and time. Teams will show up at midnight on the given date and location to receive their first clue via text message.

Teams are given clues of locations and tasks at various intervals through the night. Tasks included a Zumbathon, Silent Disco, Relay Race, Banner Making, Laser Tag and a Duct Tape Fashion Show. Each task is worth points and helps determine a winner at the end. The event wrapped up with a celebration at 6 A.M.

That is a truly amazing event!! How did the laser tag work with your big plans for the night?

Laser Tag was one of our main events. We had a bracket with all of the teams and did it single elimination tournament-style.

Laser Tag is so great for tournament play! What equipment did you rent? Did it work the way you’d hoped?

We rented the iNerf guns and 10 bunkers. Everything worked great and the participants were so excited! Laser Tag was a huge draw for the students.

I LOVE the iNerf guns. They are easy to use and inexpensive which makes them perfect for fundraising. Did your event attendees enjoy the event?

Yes – very much so! We played in the campus gym with all of the lights out. We also asked all participants to wear black to make it more fun!
